Activities for your extra long break

Christmas Break is finally here, bringing with it time to rest, home cooked meals and holiday feelings. For many, we get to go home and enjoy the company of our family. Others have to stay on campus for the two month break. Here are some activities for those here in Tulsa over the break.

Picnics. The air is finally cool enough to spend some quality time outside. Grab a blanket, some snacks, a pumpkin spice latte, maybe Chick-fil-A and head to your favorite park for a picnic with a friend. The Gathering Place, Hunter Park and Turkey Mountain are all excellent picnic spots.

Photo Shoots. This activity can actually be done all year round, but winter is an excellent time to update your photos. The golden leaves and fall outfits, coupled with the cool weather make fall the perfect time for a photoshoot. Tulsa offers excellent areas for this such as: Downtown Tulsa, Cherry Street and Brookside. So, grab an artsy friend, or just use a camera phone, and take advantage of this opportunity.

Thrift shopping. Yet another activity that can be done all year round. This is when people start buying new fall outfits and letting go of the old ones. Some cozy sweaters and boots can be spotted at local thrift stores. This activity is a good one to do if it is a bit more chilly out.

Admiral Twin Drive-in Theatre. The Admiral Twin is Tulsa’s only drive-in movie theatre. It is a nice spot to spend an evening and is currently still playing movies on the weekends. Grab blankets, pillows, a radio and head to the drive-in movies with friends.

Coffee shop hopping. This is the time of year coffee shops start experimenting with fall flavors. Pumpkin and cinnamon are popular seasonal ingredients, and coffee shop hopping to decide which place does it best makes for a fun way to spend the afternoon.

Hiking. This one is a no brainer. The weather is nice and people need to work off all the pumpkin and cinnamon they are eating anyway, so why not make a day of it? Head to Turkey Mountain or Riverside and spend a day hiking or walking in the nice fall weather. You’ll get some good steps in, too.

Camping. Or glamping, if you prefer. Spend some time under the stars and with nature before Oklahoma decides to freeze everyone back inside. The cold is coming, so take advantage of the nice weather while it is here and go camping with some friends. If the idea does not sell itself, remember there are s’mores. Anything for s’mores, right?

Go ahead and try out some of these ideas during your break, just make sure to stay safe and wear your mask. Catch up on sleep, eat some delicious food and come back for Spring 2021 refreshed and ready to take on the new semester.
