Dr. Lavoy Hatchett, Oral Roberts University founding faculty member, died Dec. 10.

A private family burial is set for Tuesday, Dec. 17 at Memorial Park Cemetery, followed by a memorial celebration at 11 a.m. at Southern Hills Baptist Church.

Hatchett was a founding faculty member who helped start the Department of Mathematics. He taught the first courses in computer science.

While the baseball program was in its infancy, Hatchett helped develop the baseball team. He coached the the first three years. Since then, he went by “Coach.”

He was the official scorekeeper for ORU basketball game for 33 years. He retired from teaching in 1994.

Hatchett is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Hatchett and three children: Barry, Bruce an Angela.
