Eric Vazquez and Kyle Owuso took the title Friday of the first winners of the Hammer Center’s FIFA 15 tournament.
“The tournament went really well. There were over 40 people in attendance to either play their game or to support other players,” said Rochelle Barnes, assistant building manager for the Armand Hammer Alumni-Student Center.
With the unveiling of the new FIFA 15 soccer game on the Xbox, 32 players in teams of two battled each other in single-elimination rounds over the course of three days.
The contestants were allowed to choose any professional soccer team they wanted with FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich being the top choices among duos. The only rules in this virtual battle were to set the difficulty to “legendary,” the toughest mode and make each half of play six minutes of real time.
Those in the championship game squared off on the largest screen in Oklahoma. Eric Vazquez and teammate Kyle Owuso won the FIFA tournament in comeback fashion by a score of 2-1 using FC Barcelona. Tim Reese and Seth Reese were runners up in the tournament using FC Bayern Munich in their final match.
“This is something that we will definitely do in the future but probably on a smaller scale. Actually, we are planning on doing something during Fall Break more information to come on that one though,“ said Barnes.
