The ORU baseball team went 1-2 in their first road series of the season against Louisiana Tech.
The team lost both games of a double-header on Saturday. The score in the first game was 11-3, the second 6-4.
ORU recovered on Sunday to take an 11-2 victory over the Bulldogs.
The Golden Eagles are now 6-3 on the season.
A pair of four run innings led to ORU’s loss in the early game on Saturday.
ORU gave up four runs in the bottom of the first inning and again in the bottom of the seventh. Louisiana Tech had 11 hits and 10 RBIs.
Starting pitcher Guillermo Trujilo played five innings. He gave up six hits and six runs, four earned.
ORU scored three runs on eight hits. Matt Brandy and Logan Domenico both recorded a pair of hits. No other batters had more than one.
Louisiana jumped out to a 4-1 lead after three innings in the early game on Saturday. ORU would cut the gap to 5-4, but couldn’t get any closer. ORU left nine runners on base.
Kurt Giller pitched five innings in the starting role. He gave up five runs, three earned, on six hits. He struck out seven batters over 106 pitches.
Domenico had another two-hit game. Audie Afenir and Dean Wilson both recorded two hits each.
A career day from Darrian James led the Golden Eagles to a win in game three on Sunday. James had six RBIs, three hits and two runs.
It was the most RBIs scored by an ORU player since Jose Trevino scored six in 2013 against Lamar.
James got the game going in the top of the second with a three RBI double to the right field corner.
Domenico brought James home to give the Golden Eagles a 4-0 lead. They would add two more in the top of the third.
A five-run top of the fifth gave ORU full control of the game and they cruised to the victory.
James hit another double with the bases loaded to bring two runners home. Noah Cummings finished the inning with a two RBI single to give ORU 11 runs.
Wilson had two RBIs in the game. Audie Afenir scored three runs. Wilson, James and Anthony Sequeira all had two runs scored.
Xavier Altamirano pitched six innings and received the win. He struck out seven batters and gave up two runs.
ORU has been able to hit consistently this year. They have 10 hits or more in five out of their last six games.
Next up for the Golden Eagles is a trip to Springfield, Missouri, on Tuesday for a game against Missouri State. First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
