ORU Women’s Soccer kicked off the first home game of their conference season this afternoon with a 1-0 loss against North Dakota State at the Case Soccer Complex Sunday afternoon.
The North Dakota State Women soccer team is currently the reigning champions in the Summit League, and a tough opponent for Oral Roberts to open their conference with.
“I am happy with the performance, we had opportunities. Against a good side like North Dakota who are league champs, that’s a positive thing,” said Woman’s Head Soccer Coach Roger Bush. “We have to bounce back, it’ll be a character test as we move forward. When you don’t pick up points at home it makes your road trip more important and we will respond to that.”
Ryliegh Bohnenstiehl played in goal the entire 90 minutes of the match, and executed two saves out of 5 taken shots from NDSU.
Sophomore forward Chloe Basnett received a yellow card in the 34th minute right outside of the box.
North Dakota’s Amy Yang got the Bison on the board in 42nd minute after scoring on a penalty kick, after the Golden Eagles received a foul inside of the box late in the first half. Allowing the Bison to enter half time with a 1-0 lead.
Throughout the second half ORU’s defense held tight holding the Bison to one goal.
Golden Eagles out shot the North Dakota Bison 17-5 shots on goal, taking 15 of those shots solely in the second half.
Although ORU didn’t hit the back of the net, the team had several opportunities. Lexi Jones and Sierra Beall each took 3 shots total, Brittney Lawrence, Maria Stordahl, Nelly Mamabolo and Mariah Morgan each added 2 shots.
“I am confident in my team and believe in them, I know that we played hard and are capable of beating every team in our conference,” said Senior Mariah Morgan. “We played well, I am not upset with performance at all. We are capable of beating that team, and this game today showed us that.”
ORU will continue conference play this season this weekend as the team takes on take on Omaha Friday at 7 p.m.
