The Golden Eagle women faced off against Lyon College on Tuesday afternoon. The game was part of TTCU’s Best Field Trip Ever but even with 4,000 excited elementary and middle school students in attendance, ORU was unable to snap their six game losing streak and fell to Lyon College 68-49.
This game puts ORU at a record of 2-8 on the season. Head coach Misti Cussen was unavailable for comments.
ORU was unable to get into a rhythm shooting only 33 percent from the field and 17 percent from three compared to Lyon’s 47 and 41 percent, respectively. One bright spot was the Golden Eagle’s 93 percent shooting from the line where they went 13-14.
The team was led by Kaylan Mayberry who had nine points, two rebounds as well as two steals. This was Mayberry’s third consecutive game as leading scorer.
Faith Ihim and Jordan Doyle posted eight points each. Doyle also led the team with four steals. Maria Martianez was the top rebounder with eight boards; Blair Bryce followed with six.
The Scots were led by Taylor Gaedtke with 14 points and six assists. Jamie Jackson posted a double-double scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. Lyon was able to make 17 points off of 19 ORU turnovers.
Jordan Gilbert sat out today’s contest; she is still in a boot with no word on when she will return.
ORU will head back on the road to face Baylor on Thursday and Kansas Tuesday, Dec. 22. The Golden Eagles will start conference play on Jan. 1 at Western Illinois. They will return home to play South Dakota on Wednesday, Jan. 6.
