The Golden Eagle women’s basketball team fell to Grand Canyon 66-64 in overtime on Monday night. They are now 1-1.
The team led the majority of the game with a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and 34-23 at the half. ORU’s defense held Grand Canyon to shooting just 31 percent and forced 13 turnovers.
The second half proved dismal for the Golden Eagles who shot only 23 percent while the ‘Lopes shot 41 percent.
The Golden Eagles shot 6-24 from three-point range and 14-20 from the line, Grand Canyon shot 3-15 and 15-24, respectively.
While ORU had 13 steals and 3 blocks, Grand Canyon out rebounded the Golden Eagles 51-38.
Faith Ihim led the ORU women with 14 points and nine rebounds. Bria Pitts was also in double figures with 13 points.
The Golden Eagles play at the University of Tulsa for the PSO Mayor’s Cup on Friday at 7 p.m at the Reynolds Center.
