Lady Golden Eagles bounce back against Southwestern Oklahoma State University

The Lady Golden Eagles came back on Sunday with a 6-1 win against Southwestern Oklahoma State University after losing on Friday against rival University of Tulsa.

The 2-0 loss on Friday against ORU rival University of Tulsa left the women’s team sore and determined.

Jordan O’Brien scored a goal in the 32nd minute for TU with a through ball and then later in the second half Camille Pelley knocked a loose ball into the goal in the 59th minute.

Helen Erb made some great saves during the game having three total saves and two goals conceded. Jennifer Abernathy lead the team with five shots half of the team’s total shot count. TU had 12 total shots by the final whistle and one save by goalkeeper Hayley Harryman.

After the game, Coach Bush said, “This is our first loss of the season. We talked about at the beginning of the season, we are going to be excellent in everything. We are going to be excellent when we lose, excellent when we win. This is a loss and we will respond excellently and I expect us to come out Sunday with a lot of energy and I expect us to play better.”

In the Sunday game, ORU gained an early lead with a goal by Jennifer Abernathy with a 40 yard free kick in the first minute bouncing off the right post and sailing into the back of the net.

Kayla Keller laid in a goal in the 18th minute with a through ball from Jennifer Abernathy and then again Kayla made one in the 19th minute with an assist from Jennifer Abernathy.

Early in the second half Samantha Nunez scored for Southwestern Oklahoma State University. 19 seconds later Jennifer Abernathy pulls her second goal of the game bringing the score to 4-1 in ORU’s favor.

In the second half, Helen Erb was injured and was switched out for Maddie Rhodes. Midfielder Lexie Salas then scored her first goal of the season in the 61st minute as she made an 18 yard strike on the goal. Kayla Nsien made her first collegiate goal as she battled one in during the 75th minute of play once again bringing the score up to 6-1.

The Lady Golden Eagles now have their eyes set on their next home game against Rogers State University Wednesday, September 11th at 7 p.m.
