Brittney Lawrence scored the two goals to push the Golden Eagles past the Omaha Mavericks 2-0. This is the fourth win in a row for the team.
“I’m really happy for Brittney getting the two goals. She’s worked really hard and she’s been very persistent,” said head coach Roger Bush.
ORU is now 9-7-2 overall and 5-2-0 in conference play.
The first half of the game was scoreless, but the team came back in the second half with energy.
“I thought it was a gutsy performance to try to rebound from a first half that was a little bit on the sloppy side,” Bush said. “But we played on Thursday and we had played hard, so for us, today was about ‘what kind of effort can we get physically and mentally?’ I thought going into halftime we had come off from not our top performance and when we came back out at halftime, I felt we got on a pretty good performance and it was a reflection of the character of the team.”
Lawrence scored her first goal 50 minutes after Caitlyn Hanslovan drilled the ball off the crossbar and to Lawrence. She scored the second 64 minutes in with the help of Kayla Keller.
“My performance was good. I think I could be better, but I always think that,” Lawrence said humbly. “The team and everyone behind me made me play better.”
The Golden Eagles look to secure a spot in the Summit League tournament when they play Denver next week at 1 p.m. at the Case Soccer Complex.
“The girls set a goal to make the conference tournament and it would be the first time in the history of the program to make it in the Summit League and we see that on the horizon. It’s just a reason to be excited and to work harder,” Bush said.
