ORU men’s soccer is back in the win column, following two straight conference losses, with its 2-0 defeat of the IUPUI Jaguars on Saturday night at the Case Soccer Complex.
The Golden Eagles are now 6-6-1 overall and 2-2 in conference play, with only two Summit League matches left before the tournament.
ORU attempted 19 shots while the defense held the Jaguars to eight, pleasing Head Coach Ryan Bush.
“I thought defensively we were very good and we talked about that going into the game,” Bush said. “[We did not want to] allow good goal scoring opportunities and I thought the defense did an exceptional job tonight.”
Tyler Hill, a team captain, started for the first time this year after a surgery in August left him recovering on the bench for the majority of the season. The redshirt senior made his presence known scoring the first goal of the night at the 14 minute mark. He was assisted by junior Corey Cantor.
Cantor, with an assist from Santiago Riveros, boosted the Golden Eagle lead by scoring the second goal of the evening with less than four minutes left to play.
“Front to back we defended really well, we created chances and we gave ourselves an opportunity to win the game,” said Bush. “Obviously Tyler and Corey did well to finish the chances.”
Hill is not only satisfied with the result of the game, but grateful for the opportunity to continue playing.
“I’m happy because this is my last year and to go out on a win and keep our season alive is great,” he said.
ORU plays nonconference, cross-town rival the University of Tulsa on Tuesday where the team plans to test tactical adjustments before hitting the road for another conference match against Summit League No. 1 Denver on Oct. 22.
