A shutout by sophomore goalie Ben LaCourse and a second half goal by sophomore midfielder Edgardo Mira led the Golden Eagles past Missouri State on Wednesday evening.
Mira scored the goal after senior forward Johnny Chavez threaded the needle with a beautiful pass that split two Missouri State defenders.
The game started slow, with most of the action taking place in the middle of the field.
Both teams were able to get close to the goal, but neither took any serious shots. It was evident that both teams were a little frustrated at the start of the second half when the referee had to break up two scuffles between players.
ORU took control of the game when Mira was able to score. His goal seemed to lift some tension from the team and the Golden Eagles were able to control the ball for the rest of the game.
After a slow start to the season, the Golden Eagles are now unbeaten in three straight matches, the longest streak since the 2010 season.
With the win, the Golden Eagles are now 2-4-1. The ORU Mens Soccer team will open conference play on Saturday night against Fort Wayne. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm at the Case Soccer Complex.
