Miscues in the eighth inning cost ORU and gave Southeast Missouri State a 7-5 win on Saturday afternoon.
After errors by second baseman Matt Brandy and catcher Jose Trevino put runners on base, SEMO shortstop Branden Boggetto crushed a three run homer over the left field fence to give Southeast Missouri State a 7-5 lead.
ORU had a chance to make a comeback in the bottom of the ninth. Logan Domenico got on base after being hit by a pitch, and Brandy was walked to put runners on first and second with no outs.
Trevino popped up to the shortstop for the first out of the inning. First baseman Anthony Sequeira grounded out for the second out, moving the runners into scoring position. Outfielder Tyler Boss struck out looking at a 3-2 slider to end the game leaving the tying run on second base.
ORU starter Guillermo Trujillo had a great outing and gave the Golden Eagles a chance to win. The sophomore pitched seven innings giving up nine hits, but only allowing three runs. He struck out three and walked one.
Brandy had a solid day at the plate despite his critical error in the eighth inning. He went 2-3 with a solo homer, two walks and two runs batted in.
Redshirt Senior Brandon Healy also hit well in his first start of the season. The third baseman went 2-4 with two runs batted in.
