It’s one of the most unusual things that you will ever see in baseball. For the second straight game, a balk in the eighth inning gives ORU a 6-5 win. The win gave ORU the four game sweep over Harvard and improved their record to 5-6.
ORU was down going into the bottom of the eighth inning, trailing 4-3. After a single and an error put runners on first and second base for the Golden Eagles, Harvard pitcher Zack Olson balked to move the runners to second. Following a fly out to left by Anthony Sequeira, Olson balked again to bring home the winning run from third base.
The Golden Eagles bullpen did a very good job considering in the situation. With two double headers in two days, pitching staffs for both teams were probably very tired. ORU Head Coach Ryan Folmar decided to let five relievers help the Golden Eagles to victory.
Hayden Holley, Phillip Wilson, Denny Clement, Jacob Teague, and Kyler Stout combined for nine innings allowing five runs on twelve hits. The bullpen struck out ten batters while allowing five walks. Teague received the win and while Stout got the save.
ORU catcher Jose Trevino has begun to heat up. The junior went 5 for 15 in the four game series, well enough for a .333 batting average in the series. He also had two doubles, a triple and knocked in 6 RBI’s.
The next game for the Golden Eagles will be Tuesday afternoon against Wichita State at 3pm at J.L Johnson Stadium.
