WACO, Texas – The ORU women’s basketball team turned the ball over 31 times as they dropped their season opener to Baylor University 110-60. Those turnovers resulted in 37 points for the Bears.
Senior Vicky McIntyre anchored the Golden Eagles in her debut with 10 points and 17 rebounds. Freshman Jordan Doyle out of Broken Arrow High School also had a standout performance. Doyle was five of 11 from the field and paced the Eagles with 14 points.
Fouls were an issue for the Golden Eagles. ORU had 33 personal fouls. Detti Balla and Tysia Manuel both fouled out of the game. Baylor shot 42 free throws to ORU’s 21.
The Golden Eagles faced a Baylor team who had not played a game without WNBA star Brittany Griner in five years. The loss of Griner did not affect the Lady Bears. ORU quickly fell behind 12-0 in the first half and trailed by double digits for 36 minutes out of the 40-minute contest.
ORU had just two field goals in the first four minutes of the game. After a slow start ORU improved to 41 percent from the field in the second half. The second half shooting however was not the answer. Baylor led by as many as 46 before ending the game with a 41 point win.
The Lady Bears had three players score at least 18 points. Nina Davis led the pack with an outstanding offensive performance, scoring 22 points and snagging 10 rebounds.
The schedule does not get easier for the Golden Eagles as they travel to Knoxville, Tennessee on Monday to take on the national powerhouse Lady Vols. The game tips off at 7:00 ET and will be broadcast on the SEC Network. Tennessee, currently ranked fourth in the nation, is fresh off an SEC tournament championship and a sweet-sixteen appearance last season.
ORU will make their regular season debut at the Mabee Center Friday, November 21, in the PSO Mayor’s Cup vs. Tulsa.
