A huge night from Vicky McIntyre propelled the ORU women’s basketball team to a 66-52 win over Omaha Thursday night.
It was ORU’s first road win in 26 games.
McIntyre scored 33 points and grabbed 24 rebounds for her 17th double-double of the year and third game with more than 20 points and rebounds.
McIntyre is only five rebounds short of the single season record at ORU and two short of the Summit League record.
The current school record is 365, set by Amy Williams in 1989-90. The conference record is 362, held by Oberon Pitterson of Western Illinois.
McIntyre is eight blocks short of the ORU single season record. That record is held by Kisa Bradley at 119. McIntyre needs 26 to reach the Summit League record.
ORU controlled the first half and went into the locker room with a 33-19 lead. Omaha challenged the Golden Eagles in the second half but never came closer than two points behind.
A 15-0 run by ORU starting with six minutes left in the game secured the victory for the Golden Eagles. The team shot 58 percent in the second half.
Jordan Doyle had 10 points in the game. Faith Ihim scored eight.
ORU outscored Omaha in the paint 36-20 and scored 24 points off turnovers to Omaha’s 13.
The win improved the Golden Eagles to 11-12 overall and 5-5 in the Summit League.
The Golden Eagles return home to face Denver on Saturday, Feb. 7. Tipoff is at 2 p.m.
