The Oral Roberts Men’s Basketball team opened up the season in an exhibition matchup against Division II team Eastern Central University. ORU won the game 75-68. The game provided returning and new players the opportunity to knock some rust off after a long summer off.
“I was glad it was an exhibition game,” said Head Coach Scott Sutton. “Give Eastern Central a lot of credit.”
ORU started the game off slow, shooting a mere 35 percent (11-31) from the field in the first half. The men also missed all 10 of their first half three-point attempts
“It was nice to be back out there on the floor with my teammates,” said Korey Billury, who finished with a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds. “We just had to let go of all those first game jitters.”
The Golden Eagles shook off those jitters and came out in the second half connecting on all cylinders. ORU improved its shooting percentage to 52 percent (15-29), and red-shirt freshman, Dederick Lee broke the cold streak as he knocked down a 3-pointer within the first minute of the half.
“I think the new guys were just really excited,” said junior forward, Brandon Conley. ‘Adrenaline can be a great defender; once they learn to work with it, the game will be much smoother.”
ORU finishes exhibition play as they match-up with Roger State University, Saturday November 8.
