The high strung game against Houston Baptist was finalized 2-1 in the second half of the overtime. The aggressive play throughout the game was a source of tension for the players, fans and some anger pointed towards the referee.
Tobenna Uzo had the first goal for HBU in the 14th minute by an assist from midfielder Patrick Toh. As the Golden Eagles began pushing back, the game started to heat up and a yellow card was awarded to Kyle Herbison on HBU.
The tying goal was then scored by Clive Chafausipo with an assist by Wayne Farmer 25 minutes from the end of the game.
After the second goal, both teams began to get very physical and after an ORU corner kick gameplay was stopped and two yellow cards were given out. One to Tobenna Uzo for HBU and one to ORU’s Gerardo Salas.
The game went into overtime and the final goal was scored by HBU’s Gustavo Alvarado whose debut goal won the game for Houston Baptist. The goal was from a breakaway shot and deflected off ORU’s defense to bounce into the net.
The Golden Eagles were outshot 25-17 as in the overtime HBU hit off 10 shots while ORU shot twice. Clive Chafausipo led ORU for shooting four shots all coming from the second half.
Sophomore goalkeeper, Ben LaCourse, had 5 saves for ORU some of them extremely impressive. While George Kelly had only two saves for the winning side.
The next few games will be away games as the team prepares to play Central Arkansas on Friday and Memphis on Sunday.
