The ORU woman’s basketball team finished their two-game preseason with a 62-46 victory over East Central Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles were led by Redshirt senior Vicky McIntyre. McIntyre scored 18 points and grabbed 24 rebounds. The performance would have tied a school record for rebounds in a game if it was not an exhibition game.
Head Coach Misty Cussen was not pleased with the way her team started the first half.
“We just didn’t play that hard, to be honest, at the start of the game,” said Cussen. “There was kind of just a lethargic feeling to how we took the floor today.”
After a very slow first half the Golden Eagles were able to dominate the second half. The Golden Eagles only scored 25 points in the first half, but put it together in the second half scoring 37 points.
The Golden Eagles now head to Baylor for their season opener. The Bears are ranked as the No. 8 team in the country going into Friday’s matchup.
Cussen knows that it is going to be a tough test, but she is not going to run from the challenge.
“Our freshmen are going to have big eyes and there’s going to be a lot of really good experiences for us to take,” said Cussen.
The next home game for the Golden Eagles will be Friday November 21st at 7:00 p.m. when they will face Tulsa in the PSO Mayor’s Cup.
