After a change in location due to field conditions at the Case Soccer Complex, the Oral Roberts University men’s soccer team defeated the University of Central Arkansas in a 3-0 shutout at the Athletics Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
“Defensively, it was good for us getting our second shutout in a row,” goal keeper Ben LaCourse said. “It shows that we are staying organized and not giving up as many opportunities. We have a lot of confidence at the moment.”
With this shutout win ORU improves to 7-7-2 overall this season, while the loss brings an end to the UCA season and establishes their final mark at 3-13-1.
ORU was able to control possession; taking six shots all on goal during the first half. In the 57th minute, Isaac Fraley scored the first goal of the game along with his first career ORU goal, giving ORU a 1-0 lead.
Shortly after Fraley’s goal in the 64th minute Perry Brooks was able to increase the Golden Eagles lead 2-0. Brooks dribbled into the box from the right side and was able to score on a strike from 10 yards out.
The final goal of the night came in the 72nd minute from senior Johnny Chavez. The late goal was his his eighth of the season, most in the Summit league.
With two saves from goalie Ben LaCourse the Golden Eagles were doing well on all cylinders, and with the conference tournament around the corner this is the type of confidence the Golden Eagles needed.
“The UCA game was a huge result for us as we wind down the season; gaining momentum going into the conference tournament is very important,” LaCourse said.
ORU host the last game of their regular season Saturday versus Western Illinois.
