On a cool and breezy night, ORU women’s soccer moved to 10-3 overall after beating Nicholls State 3-1.
ORU started off with a very aggressive attack. Megan Giles scored the first goal for ORU in the 10th minute. Giles was assisted by Mary-Kate Halsmer’s cross from the left side.
Shortly after in the 29th minute, Giles passed forward to sophomore Kayla Keller. After receiving the pass and battling for control, Keller lobbed the shot in from 30 yards out, putting the Golden Eagles up 2-0.
After halftime, Nicholls State came out with a surge and tried to press hard but ORU responded quickly. In the 59th minute, Keller put in her second goal of the night off a Halsmer through ball.
Misty Tatom connected with a diving header off the free kick by Renee Bruns for Nicholls State’s lone goal of the night in the 59th minute.
Halsmer went down shortly after getting tied up with a Nicholls State defender. She was helped off the field and was seen on the sideline elevating and icing what looked to be her right ankle. Her current status is unknown.
The victory moves the ORU women’s soccer team to 5-1 in conference play. The women will play again on Sunday, Oct. 13 against Southeastern Louisiana at the Case Soccer Complex.
