ORU women’s soccer stays afloat against Islanders

The Lady Golden Eagles won 2-1 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday afternoon.

Jennifer Abernathy led the team in shots with seven shots in 73 minutes and one assisted goal.

Kayla Keller sunk the first goal with a through ball assist by Mary-Kate Halsmer bringing ORU up 1-0 in the 26th minute.

The game began to heat up as a few near-goal attempts were made that resulted in five saves from each side.

Coming out strong in the second half, Brooke Erdmann scored a goal off a rebound shot by Yvette Franco bringing Corpus Christi up 1-1 in the 52nd minute.

As the game continued to heat up a yellow card was awarded to Brooke Erdmann for a bad tackle in the 77th minute.

In the last four minutes of the game, Jennifer Abernathy and Megan Guico assisted Mary-Kate Halsmer in the game winning shot 25 yards out.

Goal keeper Maddie Rhodes made five saves this game, three in the first half and two in the second half. This game made her record 4-1 for games won at ORU this season.

The Lady Eagles are now 8-2 in regular season play and 3-0 in conference play. Their next home game is against Nicholls State Oct. 11.
