The Golden Eagles came from behind to beat South Dakota 73-72 and improve to 12-10 and 5-3 in Summit League action.
ORU led for just 1:53 of the game and never led by more than a point, but late-game execution got this team over the hump. Although the Golden Eagles didn’t shoot well, just 43.9 percent, ORU turned it over a season-low six times in the game.
ORU also got two blocks and a four-for-four effort from the free throw line from Denell Henderson in the final minutes of the game to grab the victory.
Henderson ended the game with 14 points and three blocks, while Obi Emegano led all scorers with 24 points. Freshman Albert Owens added 11 points off the bench. Korey Billbury led the Golden Eagles with 10 rebounds.
“Give credit to South Dakota because they out played us, especially in the first half. We got some big plays from different people. Denell Henderson stepped up and hit free throws and then had a couple big defensive stands. I’m just happy to get out of here with a win; it’s hard to win on the road,” Coach Scott Sutton said.
The Golden Eagles remain on the road for the next two games as they make an Indiana swing. ORU will play IUPUI Thursday, February 5 and IPFW Saturday, February 7. Both games will tip off at 6 p.m.
