Pitching leads baseball team over Missouri State

Excellent pitching gave ORU the upper hand in a 4-1 victory over Missouri State on Tuesday night.

Pepe Gomez gave the Golden Eagles another good outing. Although he didn’t pitch a third straight shutout, he did give them a good chance to win. The senior went five innings with 4 strikeouts while walking two. He only surrendered three hits and gave up one run.

The bullpen was strong once again for the Golden Eagles. Pitchers Hayden Holley, Colin Hightower, Kyler Stout, and Jordan Romano each pitched an inning to help finish the game. They combined to go four innings while giving up one hit and allowing no runs.

The Golden Eagles manufactured runs playing small ball. The team dropped down three sacrifice bunts and added three stolen bases as well. They also were able to make the most of scoring opportunities. Brandon Healy, Audie Afenir and Jose Trevino all had RBI singles.

Afenir also laid down a beautiful safety squeeze bunt in the bottom of the eighth to score Tyler Boss from third base.

The Golden Eagles played Missouri St. earlier this season and loss=t that game 3-2. This time around, the Golden Eagles got the best of them. The victory moves the Golden Eagles to 13-14 on the season, and they still remain just one game below .500.

The next home game for the Golden Eagles will be Friday, April 4 at 6:30pm when they face Sam Houston St. for a three game series. Friday will also be Military Appreciation Night.
