SMU hands ORU 2-0 loss

The Oral Roberts University men’s soccer team dropped its second consecutive match on Friday as the Golden Eagles were shutout 2-0 by Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

ORU fell to 2-2-1 on the season, while the Mustangs reached the .500 mark at 3-3-0.

Just before halftime, in the 43rd minute, SMU scored its first goal of the match as Joseph Benjamin slipped a shot into the net to put the Mustangs up 1-0. Jordan Cano extended the Mustang lead in the 57th minute with a header off a corner kick by Bryce Clark, making it 2-0.

The match was a defensive battle that only saw 13 total shots in the 90 minutes of action, and Tarik Salkicic had ORU’s only shot on goal.

Ben LaCourse had four saves in the loss, and moves his record this year to 2-2-1.

ORU looks to get back on track at home on Monday as the Golden Eagles return to the Case Soccer Complex for a showdown with Houston Baptist. Kickoff against the Huskies is set for 7 p.m.
