Stud: RB Fozzy Whittaker, Carolina Panthers
Several teams saw their starting running backs go down with injury in Week 2, and the Panthers are no different. Whittaker gets the thumbs up for vs. Minnesota. Head Coach Ron Rivera seemed pleased after his 100 yard performance on 16 carries. He’s a great pick-up for Week 3 with playmaking upside. He’s owned in just .8 percent of leagues in ESPN standard leagues.
Dud: QB Blaine Gabbert, San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers will run into the Seattle Seahawks’ brick wall defense this week. Seattle allowed zero touchdowns against the Rams last week and that’s bad news for Blaine Gabbert, whose already low value takes a big shot this week. If you’re looking for a replacement, Joe Flacco against the Saints on Monday night is a safe bet. New Orleans is last in the league in pass defense.
Stud: WR Sterling Shepard, New York Giants
Shepard has not disappointed in his first two games in the NFL. The OU product ranks second on the Giants with 12 receptions, and first in yards with 160 yards receiving. The Giants receiving core of superstar Odell Beckham Jr., salsa dancing Victor Cruz and Shepard might be the best in the NFL. This week, Shepard faces a Washington squad who ranks just 25th in the NFL against the pass. Shepard will put up big games in both PPR and Standard leagues.
Dud: RB Matt Forte, New York Jets
I’ve always been a big Matt Forte fan, but he has an awful matchup this week against the Kansas City Chiefs. Forte had a “turn back the clock” performance, finding the end zone three times vs. Buffalo, but it won’t be nearly as easy against Dontari Poe and the Chiefs’ front seven. Kansas City also allows the eighth fewest rushing yards per game. If you’re light at running back, Theo Riddick is now an RB1 and will be a solid and valuable addition in standard and PPR leagues.
