The Golden Eagles made a statement on Tuesday night after pulling out a close five set match against Arkansas.
After four close sets, the match came down to the final few points. Arkansas had a match point at 14-13 in the fifth and final set. Freshman sensation Laura Milos killed the ball to tie the final set at 14. ORU took the next point and finished the match with a Sara Pope kill for a 3-2 victory.
Milos finished the match with 38 kills and became the first ORU player since Ori Zuzic in 2006 to record more than 30 kills in a match. She added 12 digs for her third double-double this season.
McKenna Qualls had 10 kills and 15 digs for her second straight double-double. Lucija Bojanjac continued her solid play at setter with 57 assists, a career high. Maggie DiPronio also set a career high with 19 digs.
Arkansas led the first set 24-21, but five straight ORU points stole the opening set away from the Razorbacks.
Arkansas returned the favor in the second, winning four out of the last five points for a 25-21 victory.
The third set went back and forth between the two teams until a Milos kill gave ORU a 21-20 lead. ORU didn’t give up the lead on their way to a 25-22 win.
The Golden Eagles were only two points from the match in the fourth set, but a three point run by Arkansas gave them a 25-23 victory and forced the deciding set.
ORU improved to 5-3 this season with the win.
Next up for ORU is the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup on Friday and Saturday. The team will have a double header on Friday against Houston State and Houston starting at 1:00 p.m. On Saturday, they will face Louisiana at 9:00 a.m.
