The ORU volleyball team couldn’t hold a two sets to one lead against South Dakota and lost 3-2 on the road Sunday afternoon.
In the fifth set, ORU led 11-8, but a four point run by the Coyotes gave took the lead away. With the match tied at 13, South Dakota took two straight points to claim the set, and the match.
The loss drops ORU to 7-8 overall and 1-1 in Summit League play. Laura Milos led the way for the Golden Eagles with 24 kills and 15 digs. Sara Pope struggled in one of her worst matches of the year. ORU’s only senior was limited to just four kills.
The first set was a one sided affair in favor of South Dakota. The Coyotes jumped out to a 7-2 lead and didn’t look back. The second and third sets went ORU’s way.
With the second set tied at 21, ORU put together a four point run to win the set, tying the match. The Golden Eagles would take the lead after an extremely close third set. Milos had two kills to eliminate South Dakota set points, and eventually got the set-winning kill for a 27-25 score.
ORU hit six service errors in the fourth set, including one on South Dakota set point. ORU had 14 total service errors in the match.
Lucija Bojanjac continued her strong season with 54 assists. Jovana Poljasavic hit eight kills and had a career high six digs.
ORU’s road trip continues on Monday night. The team faces Denver at 8:00 p.m. central time.
