Women’s soccer shutout at South Dakota State

After a canceled game Friday night due to weather, the ORU women’s soccer team lost 3-0 to the South Dakota State Jack Rabbits Sunday afternoon in Brookings, South Dakota.

The Golden Eagles entered the match without a win against the Jack Rabbits in five previous meetings.

Shelby Raper was the first to score and put SDSU on the board in the 25th minute of play. She was assisted by Diana Potterveld in the 25th minute of play.

ORU trailed 1-0 at the half and struggled to get shots on goal the rest of the day. The Golden Eagles recorded just one shot attempt on goal for the day when Ashley Martin missed wide in the 33rd minute of play.

Potterveld got her second assist of the game when Nicole Hatcher put in a goal in the 51st minute of the game putting SDSU up 2-0. In the 77th minute of the match Potterveld recorded her sixth goal of the season on an assist by Raper and Lauren Kresscock, stretching the SDSU lead to 3-0.

South Dakota State had the upper hand in shots on goal all day. The Jack Rabbits ousted ORU in shot attempts with a 19-5 advantage and a 10-1 advantage with shots on the goal. Helen Erb fought hard all game long at goalkeeper for the Golden Eagles and recorded seven saves.

South Dakota State is undefeated in six meetings with ORU. The loss puts the Golden Eagles at 1-6-3 on the season.

The Golden Eagles will try to rebound away from home when they head to the University of Tulsa on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Game time will be at 7 p.m. CST.
