The ORU Women’s basketball team was defeated by Summit League leader South Dakota on the road Saturday afternoon 93-70.
South Dakota created too much of margin with a 41-23 first half score. The Golden Eagles couldn’t overcome the 18 point deficit.
The Golden Eagles fought to overcome their 11 first half turnovers by shooting 66 percent from the floor in the second half. After a free throw by Vicky McIntyre put ORU down by 11 points with 12:38 left to play, South Dakota went on a 9-0 run to go up 19.
McIntyre led ORU with a season-high 32 points while getting 17 rebounds and five blocks. Kate Liveringhouse scored 21 points and Raeshel Contreras added 19 for South Dakota. Jordan Doyle scored 15 points for ORU. Saturday’s loss was the first time since December 14 at Kansas State that only two Golden Eagles scored in double digits.
The Golden Eagles continue to shoot the ball well but have not converted a few losses over to the win column. They have now shot 47 percent or better in four out of their last five games but are on a two game losing streak. ORU is now 4-5 in the Summit League and 10-12 on the season.
McIntyre’s 16th double-dobule Saturday afternoon puts her three shy of the ORU single-season record held by Vivan Herron (1988-89) and Elisha Turek (2006-07).
The Golden Eagles will try to finish the three game road trip with a win on Wednesday night when they face the 6-14 Omaha Mavericks. Tip off from Sapp Fieldhouse is set for 7 p.m.
