The ORU women’s soccer team moved to 8-2 in conference play Friday night with a win against Central Arkansas, clinching a Southland Conference Tournament Berth.
The game started out aggressive on both ends. Both teams pressed inside the box early.
ORU’s Jennifer Abernathy put in the first goal of the game in the 17th minute. Megan Giles crossed the ball from the right side, and freshman Taylor Lyman tipped it into position for Abernathy’s goal.
Right before the end of the half, ORU scored again. In the 41st minute, sophomore Madison Valenzuela chipped the ball in off a 40-yard cross from Kayla Nsien.
After halftime, both teams came out just as aggressive as the beginning of the game.
In the 57th minute, UCA scored an own goal, making the score 3-0 Golden Eagles.
UCA stole the ORU shutout in the 84th minute. UCA’s Kristin Pollard scored off a through ball from Kate Koch.
Less than a minute later, ORU’s Valenzuela scored unassisted and put in her second goal of the night.
With a final score of 4-1, ORU topped UCA and clinched a berth in the Southland Conference Tournament.
The women’s soccer team has two more conference games left this season. The first of those two is this Sunday, Oct. 27 against Northwestern State at the Case Soccer Complex.
