The Golden Eagles finished tonight with a 3-1 win against IUPUI to secure a 3-0 record during Summit League play.
They lost the first set 16-25, but won the next three sets scoring 25-21, 25-20 and 25-23, respectively.
“We did great,” said Head Coach Sheera Sirola. “Nika Mostahinic got sick when we were in warmup so we had to scramble to figure out who we wanted to put in her position and move people around. I think this is why the first set was 25-16. Then, when we figured out who we wanted to put in what spot, we were good to go. We had a game plan and we executed it.”
Laura Milos led the Golden Eagles with 25 kills and 13 digs. Lucija Bojanjac provided 46 assists and 11 digs. Both ended up with a double-double.
“Teammates feed off Laura’s energy,” Sirola said. “I think having her is beneficial because everyone else plays well. Last year, when she didn’t play well there was no feeding of energy and we just played blind and lost games. She is a huge part of this team. So is Lucija.”
The Golden Eagles play IPFW this Sunday at 1 p.m. and Omaha on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. Both matches will be held at the Aerobics Center.
“It feels great [to be 3-0 in conference play] because you have teams that were ranked No. 3 [North Dakota State] in the preseason poll and then No. 2 [IUPUI]. So we got the harder games out of the way at the beginning,” Sirola said. “I think it was a good start and hopefully from this point we just get better and not go backward.”
